Aspire to be a humanitarian

March 29, 2011greatshapeincUncategorized1 comment

Greg Mortenson is a humanitarian who builds schools for girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He has authored two books on the journey of his work to promote peace. Three Cups of Tea reflects his personal transformation in building the first school. It reveals the power of listening and cultural understanding in bridging geographical and ideological divides.

Mortenson’s message is centered on promoting peace through education. Greg is the co-founder of Central Asia Institute and founder of Pennies for Peace, with students at CAI’s Sitara School in Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan. Up until 2010, Greg has established and supported 171 schools in rural and volatile regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Over 64,000 children including 54,000 girls now have the opportunity to an education.

The title of the book,
Three Cups of Tea, is based on the proverb that says it takes three cups of tea over many months to cement a lasting relationship. During the first cup, you are strangers; with the second cup, you become friends; and by the third cup, you are regarded as family. Greg is now family to thousands of Muslims in small villages and refugee camps.

Greg Mortenson is a man who lives by his message, and provides a model of selfless service and hope for the family of humanity. Great Shape!er’s are humanitarian’s in action. Our calling is to help those in need and serve them through One Love. Look to Mortenson’s message and join our team! It may be a different region of the world but the message is still the same.
