Great Shape! Inc. serves thousands of Jamaicans each year with the help of some amazing partners, including the Jamaican Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health functions under the Jamaican Government with the mission “to ensure the provision of quality health services and to promote healthy lifestyles and environmental practices”. The Ministry of Health works with the Regional Health Authorities, Agencies, and other organizations to deliver health care across the island.

Great Shape! Inc. teams up with the Jamaican Ministry of Health to provide eye care and dental care to thousands of Jamaicans each fall. In rural Jamaica, there are no public health eye care professionals, and only 1 dentist for every 100,000 people. There is a huge need and the Ministry of Health and Great Shape! work together to address this need!

Great Shape!’s project iCare provided eye care to 1,850 Jamaicans throughout a 4-day clinic. Over 2,300 pairs of glasses were distributed and 125 Jamaicans were referred for surgeries. Great Shape! also facilitated 1000 Smiles, a dental project. 1000 Smiles served over 4,500 Jamaicans with health care and taught 15,000 children how to take better care of their teeth.

A new dental clinic was opened in Maroon Town through this amazing partnership!
Without the partnership of the Ministry of Health, Great Shape! would not be able to keep so many Jamaicans smiling bright and seeing clearly. A vision that both Great Shape! and the Ministry of Health share; the Ministry of Health’s vision is “Healthy People, Healthy Environment”. The organization envisions a health care system that guarantees access to health care for every Jamaican.

This partnership will continue to thrive as Great Shape! and the Ministry of Health facilitate iCare and 1000 Smiles this fall! Learn more about Great Shape! at www.gsjamaica.org and about the Ministry of Health at http://www.moh.gov.jm/ministry/missionvision
