Valerie Bacon is the Administrative Director for Let it Shine Media in Spokane WA, and a valuable member to our Great Shape! Inc. team.
She arrived back home Sunday evening after spending 10 days in Jamaica. Valerie was volunteering for the first time. She was a big help with the SuperKids Project, as a computer teacher at Boscobel Primary School.

Where did you go to school? Bellingham High School and Spokane Falls.

Tell us about a joyful and challenging experience: Meeting the children at Boscobel, and them remembering what I taught them the previous day.

Why is it important for you to volunteer with GreatShape! Inc.? It’s important for me to volunteer with Great Shape! Inc. because there is such a high need in Jamaica. They just don’t have the resources that we have here in the states. Children don’t even get to go to school if they can’t afford the $15 uniform.

What is your greatest passion? My greatest passion is my son. He inspires me in every aspect of my life, and I’m excited to start involving him in my volunteer efforts as he gets older.

What was your most memorable moment while in Jamaica? My most memorable moment in Jamaica was getting the letters from the children. They’re amazing kids, and it was hard to say goodbye.
