It’s the first day of “A Thousand Smiles” dental project in Hanover, Jamaica and aside from a few technical problems, all of our clinics opened doors on time today. Our volunteers returned from the field so excited about the work and full of stories about their first day.

Our volunteer teams are a mix of dental professionals and every day people that have never worked in a dental environment, so our first few days will be about training them and getting them acclimated. But, we have had nothing but positive responses about the day and the most fashionable scrubs I have seen!

In addition to the clinics, our education team and their healthy teeth program started touring the countryside with a handsome pair of frog puppets and hundreds of toothbrushes to hand out to kids. Tomorrow is the big day for them, a special Sesame Street guest will be joining them in the field. Check back for photos!

Fun facts of the day:

250 volunteers, between 1000 Smiles and SuperKids
15,000 served through 1000 Smiles
5,000 served through SuperKids

Check back soon for daily updates and track the One Love with stories from our volunteers. Hearing them talk about their experience is almost the best thing about this project!
