Volunteering abroad is a tremendous gift, and a very unique experience. Many volunteers find out about opportunities through advertisements or by word of mouth. Jamee Mason, currently headed to Jamaica, found out about her volunteer opportunity through her internship. She began working for Lucinda Kay, of Let It Shine Media, in September 2014. Jamee jumped right in to focus on Let It Shine’s non-profit client, Great Shape! Inc. Our non-profit that empowers the children and families of Jamaica and the Caribbean by providing access to education and health care.

Jamee says, “Lucinda is extremely influential. She can talk us into anything! I had to decide quickly, as there were just a few spots open for the November project.”  Jamee continued, “I didn’t think it would be possible to balance a service trip on top of a work schedule and full class load, but I approached my professors anyway.”

“Surprisingly enough, my professors were all for it and were pretty excited about the idea,” Jamee disclosed. After some research and a little encouragement, Jamee talked her parents, Tracy and Walt, into joining as well!
