Some are currently in flight, some ready to land, some preparing for departure… Great Shape! Inc.’s iCare volunteers are ready for action in Jamaica. 14 of the 22 iCare volunteers left for Negril on Thursday and seven more leave Friday.
The majority of iCare volunteers are part of a group called VOSH Northwest (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity). Of the volunteers, 21 hail from Seattle, WA and one from Portland, OR.
It’s a great mix of first-timers and veteran volunteers. Passion about the iCare project and a calling to service will mean success in Jamaica.
Thank you! We’re so blessed to have this well-seasoned team of travelers.
iCare volunteers will serve over 1,000 Jamaicans with eye exams, disease screening, surgery referrals, eyeglasses and sunglasses. The team is bringing with them 6,200 pairs of eyeglasses, weighing 680 pounds!
Beaches Negril Resort and Spa, one of Sandals Resorts International hotels, will host the team at no cost. Thanks Sandals!
The Jamaican Ministry of Health will provide the infrastructure and safety for the iCare program and the volunteers. Thanks JMH!
This is the first year for iCare… so exciting! Visit iCare’s project leader, Steven Stern’s, blog to keep up with the volunteers.
Have a safe flight and an amazing experience!
NICE JOB!
