Scholastic Books have generously donated 1,000 new books to the SuperKids project for this fall, 2011. Great Shape!’s SuperKids volunteer teachers will use the books in the classrooms in Jamaica. Great Shape! Inc. thanks dedicated team members, Jean Richards and SuperKids Project Coordinator Georgene Crowe for investing all that time in the application.

In the Jamaican schools that partner with us, the literacy rate is 40% and the children have little access to books. Now the students will get to read and turn the pages of their very own books. The Scholastic donation will be added to the books donated from First Book.

The SuperKids Team eagerly awaits for a response to another request of 5,000 Scholastic Magazines! Jean and the other teachers loved using the magazines in the classrooms in 2010, but couldn’t send them home with the children. We want to change that.

The SuperKids literacy project is a humanitarian program enhancing literacy through curriculum and resources in reading, computers, art, sports, and music. Sign up to be a volunteer: Nov. 4-21st. (Plus you get to stay at Sandals!)
