We at Great Shape! Inc are sending positive vibes to our friends and family in Kingston, and to the whole island of Jamaica.

Here’s the latest news on the situation in Kingston from the Jamacian Observer, Kingston Breaths Again and feel free to contact Great Shape! with any questions or concerns about our volunteer efforts. The following is a statement from Joe Wright, our executive director

“All of us at Great Shape! are deeply saddened by the violence and suffering that is currently taking place in Kingston, particularly since these neighborhoods are some of the poorest on the Island. We are aware that the US State Department has issued travel advisory for Kingston, but so far this violence has not affected the areas that we work in. We fully expect that the violence now taking place in Kingston will NOT affect our projects in September and beyond and that our projects will continue safely as planned. We will of course closely monitor the events and take all prudent courses to protect our volunteers and our work in Jamaica.”

Our number one sponsor, Sandals Resorts International a parent company for Sandals, Beaches, and Royal Plantation Resorts are safe and removed from the situation in Kingston. The resorts are operating as normal. You and your family would have a wonderful time at any of the Sandals Family Resorts! Below are statements from Sandals family member Lyndsay Isaacs and Sheryl McGraw-Douse. Please keep Jamaica in your heart during this time of instablity.

“Keep the prayers coming! It’s great having caring friends like you.

We are fine this side.” Lyndsay Isaacs, Public Relations for Beaches Boscobel.

“Thanks for reaching out to us, we are praying for our entire team in Kingston to be safe. In our community things are calm and we are praying that it stays that way. We are praying for speedy return to normalcy as this is really a trying time for all us Jamaicans. “Sheryl McGaw-Douse, Sandals Foundation.
