Mike Varner and Great Shape Board Member Brad Adams box up donated computers for Jamaica

“Great Shape! Inc. is so thankful for Kim Hotstart and our very special volunteer Mike Varner,” says Great Shape Executive Director Joe Wright, “what a blessing to package up computer equipment at your facility! And Mike’s dedication to the children of Jamaica is amazing.”

Varner has volunteered for the world’s largest humanitarian dental project for three years, and been a supporter of Great Shape! for even longer. He has sterilized dental instruments, helped extract cavities, and taught dental hygiene in the rural schools of Jamaica. Mike says he gets the most joy from, “helping kids and helping people in another country experience a better life. Plus, it allows me to see a part of Jamaica most tourists never see.”

Wright says, “Mike has a true ‘serving’ spirit.” He devotes his time to Great Shape, volunteers as a firefighter and helps the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The dental project in Jamaica is called, 1000 Smiles, where Varner has a nickname, “we call him ‘Safety Man’, and we’re looking forward to having him on the team again in the fall.”
