Pam Baldwin from Chico, California volunteered with Great Shape!’s 1000 Smiles dental project this past summer. Here is a little tidbit of her experience in Jamaica!

Our last clinic day we had one of the local residents give a little thank you speech. It was so moving it made me cry.  He addressed how much we were appreciated and how we are now recognized as one of them.  The treatment and acceptance of the Jamaicans reminded me of why I went into dentistry to be able to help those in need and be appreciated for your efforts. I loved being able to just do what we do best and were able to help those in need.  Coming back to the states I was faced with all the obstacles limiting intended “good deed” efforts:  restrictions, useless laws, useless rules, rules, rules.

Thanks again for all that you guys do.  My experience was one of the most incredible things I have ever done.  THANKS to all the volunteers and to the Great Shape! staff.
