What’s even more wonderful than volunteers willing to donate their time to help Jamaicans get back their beautiful smiles? Volunteers who generously donate both time and money!

Volunteers during the Negril session of the 1000 Smiles dental project collected $806 to donate to Great Shape! Inc.’s school uniform fund. This amount will be spent to purchase approximately 54 uniforms for children who would otherwise be unable to attend school.

In Jamaica, public education is free, but each child must wear a uniform, and some families cannot afford them. Long-time 1000 Smiles volunteer and fundraiser Lois Langlois “passed the hat” each week during the morning breakfast meetings, and dental project team members contributed.

Great Shape! Inc. Board members Georgene Crowe and Gretchen Lee will personally contact primary and basic school principals in Hanover Parish, where the Negril dental project holds its clinics. Those principals will provide names, ages, sizes of specific children and will then contact seamstresses who have sewn uniforms for Great Shape! Inc. in the past. The uniforms will be made to order and paid for directly from these funds.

Thanks to our amazing 1000 Smiles volunteers who are generous with their time and their money!
