For Andrew Dixon, a volunteer on this year’s SuperKids project, working with Great Shape! Inc. is only one way of making a difference for kids. Andrew, a former professional baseball player, created the Andrew Dixon Foundation to empower and teach inner city kids.
Born in Jamaica and raised in New York City, Andrew played for the San Francisco Giants and the Milwaukee Brewers for six years. After retiring from professional baseball, Andrew decided he wanted to start an organization to bring the game of baseball to kids who don’t have a lot of opportunities.
The Andrew Dixon Foundation facilitates baseball programs for boys and girls ages eight through college. The instructional clinics and camps put on by the foundation aim to teach not only the rules of the game, but also self-esteem and discipline.
We are lucky to have volunteers like Andrew who are so dedicated to improving kids’ lives!
